WOOO (Final images)

Artstone details-parapet, coping and railing

Artstone door framing

Artstone bands and columns

Ext. perspective. I don't know how I feel about how the parking lot looks... oops

Ext. perspective of the roof deck

I think this is my favorite exterior perspective, maybe because it's sunny

Int. perspective of breakroom and offices

Int. perspective of bar/clubroom

Int. perspective of the research/reading room

I tried to consider a lot more for this project as far as detailing, functioning of interior spaces and circulation, and site context and development. I think doing simultaneous models in both sketchup and revit helped and hurt me, because it took twice as long to do two and I also had to learn more revit than I originally had anticipated, but I am glad with how much I did learn even though I probably annoyed everyone asking so many questions. It also restricted how much further I could have pushed my final presentation with the time it took to figure out the software.
So far I think this has been my favorite semester due to how free we were to be independent and take our designs in the direction we wanted.

I wish Thanksgiving weekend would last longer...

I've added some facade details, pushing in the windows, adding aluminum overhangs, coping, and materials changes.
3 pm shadow on June 21st. I've placed my model on a rough picture of my site in New Ulm. I've added overhangs that account for summer shading and allow winter daylight.

Noon shadows on June 21st.

9 am shadows on June 21st.

More brainstorming stuff, some more recent than others

Some brainstorming of layouts, circulation and sun I did awhile ago.

Trying to research masonry wall structure

More research sketches I copied from the book

Structure brainstorming from awhile ago
Some old elevation conceptual ideas

Adding details to the facade. Some of these are my sketches/ideas and some are Milt's input. I want to combine brick with artstone caps and bands, and emphasize the horizontality of the structures.

Maybe getting the hang of the computer

The first floor is much more open and public while the second is more private.

There's access from the bar area onto the roof for a nice outdoor deck space and a more shady outdoor space under the 2nd floor.

I've been doing floor plans all week...

1st floor revised. This one has the open circulation in the middle and the atrium is by where the staircase to the 2nd floor will be, which will also be an open space to the 2nd floor.

2nd Floor revised. The ritual room is in the center and the circulation is around it, much more simple than before and also a reverse relationship to the 1st floor. The egress staircase will be in the gallery.

Ready set go

Chose my site! Just across the bridge from the busy part of town. Private, with lots of trees and along an interesting part of the MN River, but still close and accessible so as not to be totally exclusive.

A little diagram mapping out approximately how big each space in the program should be relative to each other. I think for this project, since my town is pretty small and probably wont have many members, it would be more economical to have multi-purpose spaces, like a ritual room that doubles as the auditorium? Just a thought.

Plan as of right now. There are two stories to separate the public and private and add more privacy. It is generally a linear progression, which is both symbolic and practical. It zig zags to represent the difficult twists and turns you must take and wander through to become a member, The two stories is also representative of the hierarchy in this organizatioin.

Concept sketches. I love doing these to doodle and brainstorm form ideas.

More concept brainstorming.

Starting to tie things together and come up with a form.

Where I'm at right now. Sarah gave me the idea of making parking underneath the second story? So far so good I hope.
